A CPT module that classifies soil by measuring natural radiation.
Every soil and mineral type has its own unique potassium (K), uranium (U) and thorium (Th) "fingerprint"; this module's measurement results are used for soil classification.
The technique of measuring natural radiation at the earth's surface is called radiometry. In a radiometric survey, the gamma radiation emitted from the surrounding soil is measured either directly as intensity (count rate) or by determining the intensity spectrum. The second method allows the amount of various natural radioactive elements, such as potassium (K), uranium (U) and thorium (Th), to be determined. The result obtained can be used for soil classification.
