Membrane Apparatus for pF Determination
A pressure membrane extractor for determining the soil moisture characteristic in the pF 3.0-4.2 (1.0-15.5 bar) range.
Determining the pF 3.0-4.2 (1.0-15.5 bar) range with the membrane apparatus does not use samples cut into sample rings; instead, a semi-disturbed sample placed in a synthetic ring and saturated prior to measurement is used in the laboratory.
To reach the higher values of the pF curve, pressures of up to 15.5 bar must be applied to the samples, since it is not possible to generate this much suction. Once equilibrium is reached at the desired pressure, the samples are removed, weighed, dried and weighed again.
For measuring larger sample series, an additional membrane extractor can be connected in parallel with the first. The pressure membrane extractor accommodates up to 15 samples.
