A minimal-design hand penetrometer for determining soil penetration resistance (bearing capacity) and compaction. Easy to use, suited to agricultural engineers and contractors.
The hand penetrometer lets you measure soil resistance quickly and easily using your own body weight. To take a measurement, simply push the penetrometer into the ground with even force. The resistance measured at the cone is read from a pressure gauge with a red pointer.
The soil's actual penetration resistance (kPa/cm²) is found by dividing the reading by the cone's surface area. The cone size to use depends on soil hardness: the harder the soil, the smaller the cone should be — but the larger the cone, the more precise the measurement.
